Hello! My name is Darena Nguyen and I am 17 years old. I am currently based in Houston, Texas, and I am passionate about utilizing scientific research to reform public policies or develop innovations. My hobbies include playing video games, listening to music, and dancing!
As a native of Houston, Texas, I found transportation highly ineffective. Houston primarily relies only on highways, causing congestion, and its metro system only consists of three lines. Ineffective route planning can lead to poorly integrated transportation networks and increased congestion. Furthermore, many current plans face issues, such as limited accessibility for visually impaired passengers. Public transportation routes must be optimized to serve high-demand urban areas while addressing the public's concerns. Thus, I created a solution that will address the challenges, such as limited data analysis and complex urban layouts that hinder the development of efficient route networks.
I developed the idea for VRevolution, which leverages VR and AR technology to revolutionize route and transportation network planning in urban areas! Through immersive VR simulations and models created by Geographic Information System (GIS) data collected in real-time and predictive modeling tools, it provides urban and transportation planners with interactive environments from large cities to small train stations to test their transportation network designs' effects on traffic and pedestrian movement. Thus, planners can assess the accessibility of transportation infrastructure, ensure proper accommodation for all users, and receive feedback from stakeholders as they can actively participate in shaping a city’s transportation infrastructure through experiencing VR. Its creation was inspired by video games such as SimCity and Minecraft!

To allow VRevolution to become a reality, I highly recommend you vote for my solution! The link is down below, and the voting period ends on June 10th.
